| Ruby Lookadoo of New Martinsville died in a collision Friday morning that left W.Va. 2 closed south of Proctor for about five hours and required a hazardous materials clean-up.
At about 10 a.m. Friday a Chevrolet Blazer, seen at right, driven by 75-year-old Lookadoo was traveling southbound on W.Va. 2 between Proctor and New Martinsville when the vehicle apparently crossed the center line, said Wetzel County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Robert Haught. The vehicle then struck “almost head-on” a tractor trailer rig, left. The truck driver was treated and released from Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale for injuries suffered in the accident. The truck’s box trailer was empty at the time of the collision. W.Va. 2 was closed as a result of debris and a spill of diesel fuel. Haught could not say how much fuel was in the rig, but noted vehicles of that type generally hold about 150 gallons. The highway was reopened to traffic at about 3:30 p.m. Friday. Because of the fuel spill, representatives of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and hazardous materials personnel were at the scene along with New Martinsville police, firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel. |
