The Wetzel County Prevention Team has been working hard to lower the statistics for drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse among Wetzel County residents.

The group works under the West Virginia Prevention Grant, which requires an entire year of studies to examine how Wetzel County compares with the rest of the state. The grant is hosted by the Wetzel County Center for Children and Families and its goal is to write a prevention plan for drugs, alcohol and tobacco and tackle the abuse problem in the county.

The prevention team is always looking for volunteers. Anyone may volunteer, parents, children, churches, youth groups or any interested person or organization. There are about 10 volunteers at this time.

To find out how to volunteer, call Beth Glow at 304-455-2468.

A family dinner called Back to the Table will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Mollohan Center. If bad weather causes a cancellation, the alternative date is set for Jan. 18. Call Glow at the number above to register. The dinner will be free and there will be prizes and giveaways and entertainment for the children. This will be a very family oriented event.
