| Dr. Paul “Butch” Barcus, Superintendent of the Wetzel County Board of Education, met with the Wetzel County Commission on Oct. 31 to convey to many local groups a message of praise.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to Prosecuting Attorney Tim Haught, to Sheriff Hoskins and his Special Response Team (SRT) to the New Martinsville Police Department, to the state police, and to all the local law enforcement, school, and safety officials whose complete emphasis was student safety during our recent bomb hoax trouble,” Barcus said. “The county and community should be grateful for the wonderful job everyone did keeping the children safe,” Barcus said. Haught had glowing comments to add about the efficiency of the teachers and school staff, and the town’s appreciation to the Nazarene and First Christian Churches who let the schools use their space during the evacuations. He made special mention of Wetzel County Sheriff James Hoskins’ Special Response Team, “The team responded rapidly and we are all glad the sheriff had the foresight to develop this asset to our community.” Sheriff Hoskins expressed similar appreciation of the cooperation between the various law, emergency and school groups adding, “The schools did an excellent job. I was glad to work with them.” |
