| The Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) and the West Virginia State Police K-9 Unit on Dec. 27 served an arrest warrant on a Kapple Street, New Martinsville man.
Jesse Edward Dreyfuse, 44, was taken into custody on a capias issued by the Ohio County Circuit Court for probation violations. The Sheriff’s Office had received information that Dreyfuse was possibly staying at a residence on Kapple Street. After verifying that the suspect’s vehicle was there, the decision was made to use the SRT to effect the arrest. Due to Dreyfuse’s violent criminal history the use of the expert skills of the Special Response Team was deemed advisable. The team’s presence adds a safety feature to not only any members of the public that may be in the vicinity, but also the advanced skills of the men insure each other’s safety. Sheriff James B. Hoskins explained that the Dreyfuse arrest is a typical scenario where the SRT is able to provide the manpower and equipment to rapidly bring about the arrest of a potentially violent offender and decrease the chance of injury to officers, citizens, and suspects alike. Since the SRT formation in late 2005, they have successfully handled a variety of situations including arrests of violent offenders, drug search warrants, armed barricaded suspects, and dignitary protection details. |
