| Officers Recover Vehicles
Two vehicles stolen in Pine Grove are have been recovered and law enforcement officials are still investigating several recent occurrences of theft from vehicles in Pine Grove. “Several people have had items stolen from their vehicles, two vehicles have been stolen, and a business has been the location of criminal activity,” reported Sheriff James B. Hoskins. A suspect for the first vehicle theft is in custody and the second vehicle theft is being investigated by the West Virginia State Police. Both vehicles have been recovered by the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office. The first was returned to the owner and the second was released to the WVSP. “Neither of the vehicles sustained any damage during the incidents,” said Hoskins. “We have made an arrest and charges are pending.” Sgt. John Brookover, Deputy Rob Hayes, and Deputy Randy Adams worked together to obtain information and statements leading to the arrest. The incidents are still under investigation and possibly could lead to other arrests. If anyone has information concerning these crimes, contact the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office at 455-2430. “The owners of the vehicles which had items stolen had left the doors unlocked. Also, the keys were left in the stolen vehicle being investigated by the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office. This allowed the criminal to take an opportunity to steal from good citizens,” said Hoskins. “I will not tolerate this criminal activity. “Some people may not understand that investigations take time. I cannot release information to the public about our activities involving criminal investigations. Releasing the wrong information could jeopardize an arrest being made, but not releasing crucial investigation information did lead to the arrest. Let me assure everyone that the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office will perform our duties to the best of our abilities and the deputies did an outstanding job by making an arrest so quickly. “However, it is also important that citizens do not allow a criminal to take such an easy opportunity. I suggest you keep your vehicle and home doors locked and keep valuables from plain view. Do not leave vehicles, house keys, or other important items in your vehicle.” |
