An incident involving drugs and several people from the Hundred-Littleton area is currently under investigation by the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Department and the Juvenile Probation Office.

While making routine curfew checks in the Hundred-Littleton area on the evening of Feb. 29, Juvenile Probation Officer Brian Hostetler discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia at two separate residences.

As is customarily the case, Hostetler was accompanied by sheriff’s deputies when he went to the juveniles’ homes. On Friday Cpl. Mike Koontz, Dpty. Rob Hayes, and Dpty. Rob Scott assisted in the discovery of a large quantity of miscellaneous drugs and drug accessories.

At one residence marijuana, prescription drugs, drug scales, and other drug-related items were found. At the other residence drugs, marijuana smoking devices commonly called “bongs,” and other drug paraphernalia in new and used condition were found, leading to the suspicion that drugs sales may be connected with activities at the residences. The incidents are still under investigation, but it is likely the events will lead to revocation of the juveniles’ probation.

One man, Adam Brent Sturm, 23, of HC Rt 1 Hundred Road, Hundred, was charged with two misdemeanors—possession of a controlled substance, less than 15 grams of marijuana, and obstruction of an officer. For the first charge he was placed on six months probation and ordered to pay $160.50 costs. He pleaded guilty to the obstruction charge and was fined $100 and ordered to pay $160.50 costs.

Officer Hostetler said the juvenile probation office will continue to work closely with Sheriff James Hoskins and his department to aggressively pursue drugs in Wetzel County. “We work hand-in-hand with the sheriff’s department and the community to try to stop drug use by juveniles,” said Hostetler. Anyone with information concerning suspected illegal drug use is urged to call Hostetler at 455-8232 or Hoskins at 455-2430.
