Sgt. John Brookover of the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office has been named the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for 2007. On May 7 Wetzel County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Haught designated Brookover as an officer who has contributed greatly to the county.

Haught said, “John Brookover has been with the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office for almost 23 years.

“He has served and protected the citizens of this county honorably and with diligence. It is a pleasure working with a deputy sheriff like Sgt. John Brookover.”

In addition to being a veteran officer of the force, Brookover is a member of the Wetzel County Special Response Team and is specially trained as a crisis negotiator.

Past recipients of the Officer of the Year Award have been New Martinsville Police Detective Donnie Harris in 2006, Paden City former Chief of Police Scott Dalrymple in 2005, and Corporal Jeff Shriver of the Hundred detachment of State Police in 2004.
